About 10 Magazine

10 Magazine founder Stephen Revere arrived in Korea as an English teacher in 1995 and set about learning Korean right away. By 1998 he had finished the highest intensive level at Seoul National University’s Korean language program and then he became the first Westerner to get a degree in Teaching Korean as a Second Language, graduating from the Yonsei University Graduate School of Education’s MA program in 2004.

His transition from student to teacher of Korean began with a few years of weekends volunteer teaching foreign laborers at Shindang Welfare Center in Seoul. He then went on to host Let’s Speak Korean and Traveler’s Korean on Arirang TV. He also published two Korean language books: Survival Korean and Survival Korean: Basic Grammar Skills. Survival Korean remains one of the best selling Korean language textbooks ever, with over 12,000 copies sold.

Then one day, Steve started to think that helping foreigners enjoy Korea more required a new English-language information source. In his travels he saw that other cities had great entertainment info magazines like Metropolis in Tokyo, That’s Magazine in Shanghai, and HK Magazine in Hong Kong, among others. Then he discovered the mother of them all – Time Out. Every one of these magazines gave people comprehensive listings of events to help them experience all that their respective cities had to offer – exhibitions, theater, concerts, shopping, festivals, sports, dining, nightlife, etc. All of this was happening in Korea too, but he realized that foreigners living and visiting Korea had no idea because all of the announcements and information were put out only in the Korean language.

Since its start in October of 2008, 10 Magazine has grown into a force in the English-language media scene. The only media outlet with a focus on how to have more fun, 10 Magazine has developed a passionate readership and subscriber base. After over 5 years of operation, 10 seems to just now be hitting its stride, with a new redesign to the print magazine and a brand new website.

This is just the beginning folks. It’s fun time!
