UberX Korea Becomes Free

With the Seoul government continuing to put pressure on the popular ride sharing app, Uber Korea has decided to eliminate the fares from their UberX service. Uber stated that the removal of fares will, “reduce the negative impact on its drivers and their partners and to protect them from an anti-ridesharing ordinance by the city.” The government has been doubling down on their threats to ensure that the Uber service does not survive in South Korea by implementing fines/rewards programs for people who report Uber drivers.

Uber continues to hope to reach a mutual agreement between the government and their organization and has proposed a regulated registration service for Uber drivers. It is unclear how long the UberX service will remain free.
